The paln-do-review process is the centerpiece of the HighScope active learning approach. It encompasses all the elements of active learning: materials, manipulation, choice, child language and thought, and adult scaffolding.

In making daily plans, following through on them, and then recalling what they have done, young children learn to articulate their intentions and reflect on their actions. They also begin to realize they are competent thinkers, decision makers and problem solvers. They will carry their self-confidence and independence into subsequent school settings and continue to benefit from these characteristics throughout their lives.

At planning time, children will decide what they are going to do based on their interests in small group with their adult. Then they carry out their intentions during Do time.  They may complete or change their plans, and adult will support them whatever. It comes to Clean up time after that when children are announced to end up with what they are doing and begin to tidy up. At Review time, they will sit in the same group as Plan time and tell about what they have done.

You may, by watching cameras, see a group of child doing cooking excitedly at the House area, and at the same time,  a boy is lying lazily on the couch at the Book area looking at his picture story or another child doing some movements to the music at the Music and Movement area. They are all carrying out their plans choosen and decided based on their own interests, and we pay total respect to their choices.
